HIV and AIDS Testing Services

The HIV and AIDS Testing Services under the US Small grants was a local initiative of Family Development Initiatives that aimed to reduce the HIV prevalence rate in Lusaka. It provided males with a continuum of HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services through mobile means at community level. The project worked to complement the services provided at facility level by those males at family level that shun the facility (older men specifically) due to several personal and socio-economic reasons. It is anchored around finding HIV cases (providing HTS services) in men and linking those found positive to treatment, care and support through services provided outside the facility, in the comfort of their environment. The services were provided by trained community HTS volunteers. Behavior change messages on promotion of PrEP, PEP, condom use for discordant couples and voluntary male medical circumcision (VMMC) were transmitted,

The project objectives were as follows;

To link the reactive clients (men) to the health facilities for treatment and care

Prevention of the spread of HIV among men in Chipata, Chawama, Matero, Chazanga and Kanyama compounds of Lusaka

Provision of quantum of care to clients we reach out in the five (5) operational sites
